Standard

Here are five things I love that I have in my home.

1. My photo gallery

2. My coffee table . It has a painted metal house tea light holder and a tray I got from Asda with one of my domes (I use them a lot in my home ) and inside is a ceramic owl. A Yankee Candle tea light jar and a Yankee Candle small jar with saucer and shade.

3. My painted wooden candlesticks and lantern.

4. My mantle clock. John gave it to me for our 15th Wedding Anniversary and it was brown but I painted it white .

5. My late Grandmother’s tea set . I have the tea pot, sugar bowl and milk jug on a shelf in my kitchen and some of the cups displayed in one of my domes. I love the flowers . I remember it was in my Grandmother’s china cabinet and it was never used.

2.I posted these two photo’s on Facebook this week as I made some breakfast bite muffins for the freezer, they are basically a crust-less omelette baked in a muffin tin, I use cooked bacon, mushroom and spring onion and I mix with beaten eggs ,salt and a sprinkle of smoked paprika, I then crumble some de frosted hash browns into the mixture and bake in a greased muffin tin, they can be eaten hot or cold and can be frozen and defrosted, these can be packed as a lunch or warmed in the oven and are really tasty.

12232743_10206300003111483_6177266415624940617_oexcuse the messy tray I spilt mixture on the silicone muffin tin,I used a ladle because I was too lazy to get a jug, serves me right, it is quite a deep tray  and I use it for baking and chilling desserts like jelly etc.

12239580_10206300004591520_618366924292923997_nI put an extra sprinkle of grated cheese on top, don’t the look good?

5.12187806_10206265692613742_6852606881404629852_n I have not been too well and have had a chest infection and one day last week I stayed in my pj’s on the sofa watching Youtube, keeping warm in my snuggly throw that I got from Homesense one of my favourite places for home wear’s.  The table is a little adjustable table I use the laptop or the kids use it for colouring,it was from Ikea I think it was £15 and so handy,

A chill in the air and Autumn is here.

Standard

Hi, here in the Midlands there is a chill in the air, to be honest I have not been really warm since coming back from my holiday in the sun with average temperatures of 29 degrees. I love the summer but also love cosy Autumn nights in front of the fire with my candles burning and a lovely mug of coffee or hot chocolate in my chunky comfy cardigan (that has seen better days but is far too comfy to throw away).

It is that time again, time to cosy up the house. I have candles all year round but add more in little votive’s and scatter them around the living room, they look so pretty flickering away, get out the fluffy throws as we have leather seating it can be cold so I have throws out anyway but change the lightweight ones for heavier or fluffier ones.

I did a wardrobe swap before I went away, putting away the clothes I would only ever wear in summer apart from the ones I was packing obviously, and sorting through my tops and cardigans that I would wear on chilly days, I sorted through my shoes and boots and I need to get a new pair of comfy casual ankle boots to wear under jeans or trousers I got rid of my old ones in the Summer de-clutter. I got my mac and winter coat out of my spare room wardrobe and since coming back have changed my main wardrobe to all autumn and winter clothes. I have quite a collection of scarves and love them all year round,I like jewel tones in the winter and have a few deep red bags that I will use a lot more. I love deep reds and purples for nails, I have a lovely deep purple polish that I wear on my toe nails.

I have made a lovely warming casserole this week with crispy potatoes on the top, we were in need of some warming comfort food as we both had the holiday blues.I am looking forward to trying some new recipe’s that I found on Pinterest,a site that I waste so much time use for research and can while a way many a happy hour with a few cups of coffee browsing the boards for ideas on all manor of topics.I love making soups too, roasted vegetable, butternut squash and red pepper or leek and potato are my favorite’s but am going to experiment with new recipes, baked potatoes are a must in my kitchen too.

I am collecting items for my hot chocolate bar, which is basically a tray with jars of various flavored hot chocolate and toppings, mugs and stirrers etc for the Grandchildren that I put out on the opposite worktop to my coffee station,my coffee station is permanent, but I put out hot chocolate items in the Autumn/Winter and then change the tray and contents for Christmas,I then add candy canes and sprinkles for the Grandchildren,I am on the look out for some cute new mugs.I got some Kilner type jars from Ikea a few days ago in various sizes as I used the ones I had last year for storing items in my pantry, I couldn’t find a nice tray in there but have seen a nice wooden one on the Asda website for just £6 and am getting two,one for the kitchen and one for my coffee table as I have other plans for the one I have on there now.John rolls his eyes when he hears my plans or sees me moving things around and blames it all on Pinterest.

I look after my Grandchildren a few days a week after school for a few hours and am looking forward to wrapping up and going walking in the park, leaf kicking, squirrel spotting and coming home for hot chocolate, and board games, we have a no technology day one of the days that they come (they use i pads) when they come and we can play a game or do a craft project or bake and they love it, we also have a popcorn and a movie day, although as they are different ages it can be quite tricky deciding on a movie that they all agree on.

I like weekend lie in’s in the colder months and will make a drink and take it to bed and sit and read or watch TV in bed until I know I have to get up.

What you do to prepare for the Autumn and what do you look forward to?

5. Today I am going to lunch at a garden centre and they sell some beautiful things and they stock Yankee candles so I am looking for a baking themed.(gingerbread men etc)  tea light holder and tea lights as my kitchen is always decorated with Gingerbread men/baking themed items.

Friday five…

Standard

I was trying to think of what my five should be this week and with the weather turning I think we are being dragged kicking and screaming towards Autumn so my Friday five post is – Five things I like about Autumn.
1.Making the house cosy ready for chilly weather, getting throws out for snuggling up in to watch TV or read a book and putting my big fake fur blanket on the bottom of the bed, putting more candles around the house as I love candlelight it makes a room look and feel cosy.
image

2. I love long Summer nights but enjoy lighting the fire and candles that little bit earlier as it gets darker much earlier.
image

3. Preparing for the schools P.F.A Halloween disco or spooky disco as we have to call it (don’t get me started on that one) it is one event that the kids enjoy the most. The costumes, the disco, the food. We start planning as soon as the kids go back in September which is almost here. Must look on Pintetest for costume ideas.
4. The food…it had be in my five. I love cooking and I find as much as I love fresh Summer foods it is so nice to make one pot warming soups and stews. There is nothing like filling the kitchen with the smell of a great beef bourguinon or lamb hot pot topped with thin crispy potatoes.
5.Having a long bubble bath, putting on pj’s and getting into a cosy bed with a nice warm drink or a glass of my favourite red wine and a good book.
I could go on, what are your favourite things about Autumn?

Craving cosy

Standard

I am really craving cosy, do you know what I mean? I got up this morning and looked around my house and it needs cosying (is that a word?) up a bit for the winter. I love light colours and my living room is brown and cream and light teal, I love that colour but it can feel quite cold, I love it when it goes dark and I can put my lamps on and light the candles it looks and feels so cosy.

I love the idea of a real fire.

imagesCASKR18P How cosy is this ?

I love my throws and I have a blanket basket which I bring out and it is full of fluffy warm throws, ideal to wrap up in and watch tv or read a book.

imagesCAJOG68Q How nice to wrap up in or throw over your legs ?

I love candles and always have them around the house they are perfect to create a cosy home.

images[5] Something as simple as lighting candles can create a cosy looking room.

Sitting by the fire wrapped in a throw, reading a book or watching tv and drinking hot chocolate is such a warming treat and makes me feel so cosy.

hot-chocolate[1] Hot chocolate is like having a hug from the inside.

For cosy toes what could be more cosy than these bed socks?

imagesCAUZV6NY Warm and toasty toes.

We have gaps under our doors since replacing underlay and carpet with wooden floors so to stop the draughts we use draught excluder’s and we can really feel the difference on chilly days.

imagesCA0WTX0R Cosy,warmer rooms and how pretty is this?

We all tend to crave comfort food now and again and especially on a chilly day, stews soups, casseroles, steaming bowls and mac and cheese, sponge pudding and custard and my favourite sticky toffee pudding, all leave us full, warm and cosy.

imagesCAFNZGAB imagesCAY31F8Y Mmmmmmmm

A quick refreshing shower in the morning is fine but on a cold night what could be more cosy than a hot bubble bath with candles?

imagesCAMOA635 perfect !

After a long soak in a bubble bath I love to cosy up in my bed and read a book or watch tv with candles and a throw to keep our feet nice and warm and cosy.

imagesCA4G1QQP I think I have really over used the word cosy in this post but I hope you excuse me for it.

What do you crave at this time of the year?
